BOSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 370 individuals in the Boston area last week during a five-day operation, according to former ICE Director Tom Homan, who currently serves as an advisor on border and immigration policy.
Homan stated that he traveled to Boston to assist in the operation, which involved multiple federal agencies, including the FBI. The individuals taken into custody were reportedly wanted for a range of serious charges, including murder, drug trafficking, and crimes involving minors.
The operation has drawn attention to differing approaches between federal immigration enforcement and local leadership. Homan expressed concern that city and state officials were not cooperating with ICE, naming Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey specifically.
Mayor Wu, who was recently invited to speak before Congress on issues related to policing and immigration, did not issue a public statement regarding the arrests.
Governor Healey responded to questions by affirming her administration’s commitment to public safety.
“We continue to cooperate — local, state, and federal — with law enforcement,” she said Monday. “It’s always been our position that people who commit crimes and pose a threat to communities should be held accountable and removed from the streets.”
ICE has not released additional details about the charges or legal status of those arrested.
