An Idaho state legislator’s agricultural business was visited by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in early 2025 following a public tip submitted by Ryan Spoon.
The farm, operated by Rep. Stephanie Mickelsen and located in southeastern Idaho, employs seasonal agricultural workers. A few days after the tip was submitted, ICE agents conducted an unannounced visit to the property. Shortly afterward, one worker was taken into custody.
The detained individual was identified as a Mexican national. Public records show he had a previous arrest in Idaho. At the time of ICE custody, he was being held in a Nevada detention facility.
The farm’s management stated that they use the federal H-2A guest worker program and comply with all state and federal laws regarding employment. They also stated that they cooperate fully with authorities.
The incident highlights ongoing enforcement activity related to employment and immigration, as well as the challenges faced by agricultural businesses in navigating federal labor regulations.
