WASHINGTON, D.C. — Elon Musk launched a wave of criticism this week against President Donald Trump’s signature spending bill, calling on Americans to contact their lawmakers and demand they “KILL the BILL.”
Posting over 25 times on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday alone, Musk accused the administration of “bankrupting America” and slammed the bill as a “disgusting abomination.” He criticized its size, its deficit impact, and provisions cutting electric vehicle tax credits.
“We need a new bill that doesn’t grow the deficit,” Musk wrote in one post. In another, he declared, “No one who actually reads the bill should be able to stomach it.”
Speaker Mike Johnson responded to the attacks, calling Musk “flat wrong” and defending the legislation as fiscally responsible, highlighting tax cuts and spending reforms. “We don’t have time for a brand-new bill,” Johnson said.
Behind the scenes, tensions between Musk and the Trump administration have reportedly grown, with sources citing disagreements over electric vehicle subsidies, AI partnerships with competitors like OpenAI, and the recent withdrawal of Musk ally Jared Isaacman’s NASA nomination.
The White House declined to comment. Musk’s representatives have not responded to requests for clarification.
