Idaho Sees Major Spike in ICE Arrests, With Fewer Involving Criminal Convictions
BOISE, Idaho — Federal immigration arrests in Idaho have sharply increased in 2025, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detaining over 360 individuals in the first half of the year, according to state data.
Between January 1 and June 26, ICE arrests surged by more than 800% compared to the same period in 2024, when only 41 arrests were recorded.
The current arrest numbers have already more than doubled the total for all of last year. However, the proportion of detainees with prior criminal convictions has decreased. In 2024, 82% of ICE arrests in Idaho involved individuals with criminal records. That figure has dropped to 68% in 2025.
Shift in Enforcement Tactics
Fewer arrests this year involved pending criminal charges or non-criminal immigration violations. According to immigration attorneys familiar with the situation, ICE agents in Idaho are reportedly using more assertive enforcement methods, including detaining individuals during court appearances or regular check-ins.
The arrests are part of a broader national trend under the current administration’s immigration enforcement agenda.
