Weather Pattern Change Moves Into Idaho
After a stretch of warmer and drier conditions, Idaho is expected to see a shift in weather as a series of Pacific storm systems move inland.
Forecasters say a brief period of drier weather is expected on Friday as a weak ridge passes overhead. A more sustained change in conditions is forecast to begin over the weekend and continue into early next week.
Rain and Snow Timing Across the State
Widespread precipitation is expected from Monday, Feb. 16, through Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Snow levels are forecast to range between 3,500 and 5,000 feet in elevation. This means many valley areas will likely see rain or a rain and snow mix rather than all snow.
Central and North Idaho are expected to receive the heaviest mountain snowfall during this period.
Snow Possible in Valleys Later in the Week
Forecasters say snow chances will increase later in the week, including for lower elevations.
Valley locations across Idaho may see measurable snowfall between Thursday, Feb. 19, and Friday, Feb. 20. While mountain areas are expected to receive the greatest accumulation, some valley locations could see around an inch of snow by the end of the week.
Boise Area Forecast Through the Week
The Boise area is expected to see mostly sunny conditions on Friday, with highs in the upper 40s and overnight lows in the upper 30s.
Cloud cover is expected to increase Saturday, followed by a warmer Valentine’s Day with daytime temperatures in the mid-50s. Sunshine is forecast to return on Sunday, with highs remaining in the mid-50s and overnight lows in the mid-30s.
Monday is expected to remain mostly sunny during the day before rain moves in late in the evening. Precipitation chances increase Monday night, with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s.
Cooling Trend Expected After Midweek
Temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly above seasonal averages through the weekend.
A cooling trend is forecast to begin by midweek. High temperatures are expected to fall from the 50s into the 30s as the week progresses, while overnight lows may drop from the 30s into the teens in some areas.
How Long Will Wet Conditions Last?
Forecasters say rain and snow are likely to persist for much of the upcoming week.
Drier conditions and gradual warming are expected to return heading into next weekend, though most precipitation is forecast to fall before then.
