Unexpected Interruption Leads to Encore Performance
Residents of Rexburg are invited to a special encore performance of the oratorio ‘Lamb of God’ at Madison High School. The performance, organized by Witness Music Southeast Idaho, will take place on Sunday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and admission is free for all attendees.
Power Outage Disrupts Initial Performance
The original performance on Saturday night was unexpectedly interrupted when high winds caused a power outage at the venue. Despite the setback, the performers continued with the aid of generator-powered lighting until it became necessary to evacuate for safety reasons.
Details of the Oratorio
‘Lamb of God,’ composed by Rob Gardner, is an oratorio that depicts the final days of Jesus Christ’s life and his Resurrection. The work features various soloists portraying significant biblical figures, including Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and apostles such as Peter, John, and Thomas. A unique aspect of the performance is the use of a solo cello to represent the words of Jesus Christ.
Community Response and Safety Measures
Audience members, including Kaatia Larsen, who attended with her family, described the scene as the power went out. “The generator provided minimal lighting, and the stage lights and microphones were off,” Larsen recounted. Despite these challenges, the audience remained quiet to hear the ongoing performance until it was officially halted after the piece ‘Here is Hope.’
For safety reasons, the performance was stopped, and attendees were asked to evacuate the building. The audience responded with a standing ovation before leaving the venue.
Plans for the Encore
Following coordination with Madison High School and the performers, Witness Music Southeast Idaho announced the encore performance. The organization, known for its nondenominational choir and orchestra, frequently offers free performances of ‘Lamb of God’ during the Easter season throughout southeast Idaho.
All community members are welcome to attend the rescheduled event, and no tickets are required. This encore provides an opportunity for those who missed the full performance on Saturday to experience the complete oratorio.
