Police Attempted to Serve Warrant at Rest Area
A high-speed pursuit on Interstate 15 in eastern Idaho ended Tuesday afternoon with two people in custody and illegal drugs recovered, according to Idaho State Police.
Authorities said Idaho Falls Police requested assistance while attempting to serve a warrant on a vehicle parked at a rest area near milepost 101 in Bingham County. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled northbound on I-15.
Chase Spanned Multiple Exits and Involved Spike Strips
Troopers deployed spike strips during the pursuit, flattening the vehicle’s tires. Despite the damage, the driver continued north before exiting and reentering the interstate near milepost 116.
The vehicle later took the Broadway exit in Idaho Falls, ran a traffic signal, crossed a ditch, and came to a stop in a nearby parking area.
Suspect Taken Into Custody After Foot Pursuit
Police said the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Troopers pursued and used a Taser to detain the suspect.
No injuries to officers or bystanders were reported in the information provided.
Narcotics Thrown From Vehicle Recovered
During the pursuit, law enforcement reported observing the driver throw items from the vehicle onto the roadway. Those items were later recovered and identified as narcotics.
Authorities said the recovered substances included fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Charges Filed Against Driver and Passenger
The driver faces multiple felony charges, including:
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Felony eluding
- Destruction of evidence
- An active warrant from Bingham County
A female passenger was also arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials did not release the names of those arrested. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be considered as the case proceeds through the court system.
