Arrest Made Following Weekend Stabbing in Pocatello
A woman from Pocatello has been taken into custody in relation to a stabbing incident involving two victims. The arrest occurred after a violent episode unfolded over the weekend.
Details of the Incident
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Marita Gonzales, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery. The altercation took place near the 700 block of South Arthur Avenue, just south of the downtown area, on Sunday night.
Victims and Injuries
The two women injured in the incident have been identified as Rajah Keller, 32, and Starla Keller, 49, both residents of Pocatello. Rajah sustained multiple stab wounds, while Starla suffered a significant cut on her face.
First responders provided immediate medical assistance at the scene. Rajah was subsequently transported to Portneuf Medical Center and later airlifted to the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, where she remains in stable condition. Starla received treatment at Portneuf Medical Center and has since been released.
Investigation and Arrest
The Pocatello Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, which included canvassing the area, analyzing cellphone data, and reviewing surveillance footage. Interviews with witnesses were also part of the investigative process.
During the investigation, officers discovered a video and photograph showing Rajah Keller with another individual, later identified as Marita Gonzales. This evidence, along with items found at Gonzales’ residence through search warrants, led to her arrest on Tuesday at 9 p.m. She is currently held at the Bannock County Jail.
Witness Accounts
According to police reports, Starla Keller described the attacker as an unknown male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short hair, wearing a hat and a dark jacket. She recounted seeing this individual with Rajah Keller before the attack. After the stabbing, the assailant reportedly fled the scene heading south on Arthur Avenue.
Legal Considerations
While Gonzales has been charged, it is important to remember that an accusation does not equate to guilt. In the judicial system, individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.
