BOISE, Idaho — A Pride Season Kickoff event planned for June 6 in Boise was canceled after failing to draw enough community interest, despite significant online promotion.
The event was meant to serve as a lead-up to the main Boise Pride Festival scheduled for September, aiming to increase LGBTQ+ visibility and build momentum for expanded programming throughout the year. However, organizers cited poor ticket sales and limited early engagement as the reason for canceling.
“All tickets have been refunded,” organizers confirmed in a statement, noting that while online support was high, actual participation did not match expectations. They acknowledged the challenge of sustaining events outside the central September festival without early buy-in from the community.
Boise Pride organizers say they still hope to grow future programming and are calling on supporters to help make September’s main festival a success.
The cancelation follows a growing national conversation around the scope and visibility of Pride-related events, particularly in smaller or more conservative communities. Despite the setback, Boise Pride remains scheduled to return in full later this year.
