Fulcher Pays Tribute to Fallen Firefighters on House Floor
U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher delivered remarks Tuesday honoring two Idaho firefighters who were killed and a third who was wounded in an ambush on Canfield Mountain last month.
On June 29, Battalion Chief Frank Harwood of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Battalion Chief John Morrison of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department were fatally shot while responding to a wildfire. Engineer Dave Tysdal, also of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, was critically injured but is recovering.
“They Represent the Best of Idaho”
Speaking from the House floor, Fulcher described the attack as a cruel and senseless act that does not reflect the values of Idaho.
“Speaker, I rise to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of two of Idaho’s bravest who we lost way too soon during an appalling ambush attack in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho,” Fulcher said.
He recounted how the firefighters arrived at the reported fire on Canfield Mountain and were met with gunfire from what he called a “disturbed, cowardly individual.”
“These men represent the very best of Idaho. Their courage, heroism, and dedication will never be forgotten,” Fulcher added.
Call for Prayers and Support
Fulcher asked for prayers for Tysdal’s full recovery and comfort for the families of the fallen. He noted the community’s deep sense of loss and commended the bravery and service of all three men.
“This evil act against our firefighters does not represent the Idaho way,” he said.
