Shooting at Utah Valley University
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Videos verified from the scene show Kirk addressing a crowd when a single gunshot struck him in the neck. Witnesses described panic as spectators screamed and fled.
Kirk was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. Police confirmed a suspect is in custody.
Event and Security
Kirk had been on campus as part of Turning Point’s “The American Comeback” tour, holding a debate-style event under a large outdoor tent.
The visit drew controversy ahead of time. More than 1,000 students signed a petition urging the university to cancel his appearance. Administrators allowed it to proceed, citing First Amendment protections.
Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who attended, told Fox News that he heard a single shot and saw Kirk collapse. He noted the police presence was light.
