Deadly Blast Shakes Rural Tennessee Community
Authorities confirmed multiple fatalities and several missing persons following an explosion Friday morning at a military explosives facility in Tennessee. The blast occurred around 7:45 a.m. local time at Accurate Energetic Systems, LLC, a manufacturer of military-grade explosives located along the Hickman and Humphreys County line, about an hour southwest of Nashville.
According to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, the explosion was “devastating,” and emergency responders worked through the morning to secure the area. “We do have several people at this time that are unaccounted for,” Davis said during a briefing. “We can confirm that we do have some that are deceased.”
Ongoing Emergency Response
Multiple agencies from neighboring counties and state authorities responded to the incident, working to assess the damage and control fires at the site. Officials have restricted access to the immediate area due to ongoing risks of secondary explosions.
The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office urged residents and the public to avoid traveling near the facility while emergency crews continue their operations.
Residents Describe Powerful Shockwave
Residents living near the site reported feeling a forceful shockwave when the explosion occurred. One local, Gentry Stover, said the blast shook his entire home. “I thought the house had collapsed with me inside of it,” he said, adding that he realized soon after it came from the explosives facility nearby.

Accurate Energetic Systems manufactures specialized high-explosive materials and products for the U.S. Department of Defense and other industrial markets. The company’s operations include the production and testing of energetic materials used in military and defense applications.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding the cause of the explosion. Federal and state investigators are expected to assist in determining what led to the incident.
