Decades of Service to the Community
POST FALLS — Police Chief Greg McLean has announced his retirement after more than three decades of service to the city of Post Falls. His retirement will officially take effect on October 18.
McLean described his time with the department as “an honor to serve this community and to witness its growth firsthand.” He noted that he had seen Post Falls evolve “from dirt roads and open fields into a thriving city filled with new developments, apartments, and expanding neighborhoods.”
Career Highlights
McLean began his career with the Post Falls Police Department in 1989 as a full-time animal control officer and became a full-time police officer the following year. In the mid-1990s, he helped launch the city’s motorcycle patrol unit to address increased traffic challenges brought on by rapid population growth.
Over the next 30 years, McLean served in multiple roles, including motor officer, field training officer, detective, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, and captain. He was appointed police chief in 2021.
A 2011 graduate of the FBI National Academy, McLean also holds an associate degree in criminal justice from North Idaho College.
Praise from City Leaders and Colleagues
Capt. Mark Brantl commended McLean’s years of service, calling him “a dedicated and respected presence in Post Falls for many years.” He added, “His leadership, commitment, and steady guidance have made a lasting impact on all of us.”
Mayor Ron Jacobson praised McLean’s leadership, describing him as “a sincere pleasure to work with” and highlighting his “servant leadership, approachability, responsiveness, and love for the community’s well-being.”
Transition and Future Leadership
As the city begins a recruitment process to find the next police chief, Capt. Jason Mealer will serve as interim chief. Mealer said McLean’s “leadership has helped shape the department for decades, leaving a lasting imprint of public service on both the agency and the community.”
He added that he plans to continue building community partnerships and supporting department staff to ensure “the highest level of public safety for our citizens.”
A Final Word of Thanks
McLean expressed deep gratitude to Post Falls residents for their continued support of the police department. “Their trust, partnership, and encouragement have made our work meaningful and rewarding,” he said.
