What Happened
An AH-64 Apache helicopter crashed near Fort Hood, Texas on Wednesday, killing two crew members assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deontre Huey, 34, and Warrant Officer Seth Olmstead, 25, died in the accident.
In response, the Army immediately suspended all Apache training flight operations until investigators determine the root cause of the crash. Investigators from the Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama arrived Thursday to begin their inquiry. The stand-down will remain in effect across all Army installations until the investigation concludes.
Lt. Gen. Kevin Admiral, acknowledging the loss, stated: “Our hearts and deepest condolences are with the families of the Soldiers we lost Wednesday.” The Apache helicopter is crewed by two soldiers: a pilot positioned in the rear cockpit and a co-pilot and gunner in the front, as first reported by the Local News 8.
