Boise Pride Flag Still Up After Law Takes Effect
Boise City Hall has kept the LGBTQ+ Pride flag on display more than a week after a new Idaho law went into effect prohibiting non-official flags on public property.
The law, signed by Governor Brad Little on April 3, allows only U.S., state, military, POW/MIA, tribal, university, city, and foreign commemorative flags at government buildings. Lawmakers specifically cited Boise’s Pride flag as an example of what the law intended to prevent.
Despite that, city spokesperson Maria Ortega said Thursday, “We will continue to fly the existing flags on city property.” She did not confirm whether the city believes this complies with the law.
The flag was briefly taken down Thursday morning but reappeared later that afternoon. No explanation was given.
