NFL Roster Cuts Impact Former Boise State Players
As NFL teams finalized their 53-man rosters on Tuesday, several former Boise State athletes were released, while others secured spots or practice squad positions. The annual cut deadline marks the end of preseason competition and determines who will suit up for the regular season beginning September 4.
Broncos head coach Spencer Danielson acknowledged the emotional toll of the roster cuts, especially for players he once coached.
“I’m definitely paying attention,” Danielson said. “It breaks your heart to see kids you care about go through that. I’ll be reaching out to them.”

Drafted in the sixth round, defensive end Ahmed Hassanein showed early promise before sustaining a pectoral injury during preseason play. The Detroit Lions released him with an injury settlement, allowing him to receive compensation while recovering. He becomes a free agent once healthy.

Wide receiver Cam Camper joined the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent. He recorded one catch for 14 yards in the preseason but was waived on Tuesday along with five other receivers.

Quarterback Brett Rypien, who graduated in 2019, has previously played for the Broncos, Rams, and Seahawks. He joined the Vikings in August but was released to make room for Daniel Jones.
