Accident North of Boise Claims Teen’s Life
An 18-year-old from Boise has died following a dirt bike crash in the Boise Foothills, according to the Ada County Coroner’s Office.
Officials identified the victim as Trevor Cleland, who was riding near 6600 North Cartwright Road, close to the Owyhee Motorcycle Club. The crash occurred Wednesday evening.
Cleland was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 8:30 p.m., the coroner’s office said in a Friday release.
Motorcycle Club Temporarily Closes Track
The Owyhee Motorcycle Club, which operates in the foothills area where the crash occurred, announced on its Facebook page that it would close the track for several days “in light of the recent situation.”
The organization asked the public to “be respectful and understanding” while the closure remains in effect.
Investigation Underway
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not yet released details about how the accident occurred or whether other riders were involved.
Authorities are reminding recreational riders to wear proper safety gear and use caution on off-road trails, especially in the foothills where terrain conditions can change rapidly.
Idaho’s Off-Road Riding Safety
Dirt biking is a popular recreational sport in Idaho, particularly in the foothills and desert trails around Boise. Local organizations often stress the importance of:
- Wearing helmets and protective gear
- Riding within designated areas and club rules
- Avoiding high-speed riding on loose or unfamiliar terrain
- Checking bikes and brakes before riding
The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation also recommends riders register off-highway vehicles and complete safety courses before using public trails.
