Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney firmly rejected the idea of Canada becoming part of the United States during a meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. Responding to Trump’s comments about the “artificial” border and the possibility of a U.S.-Canada union, Carney said, “Canada is not for sale, it won’t be for sale, ever.”
Trump, speaking as a former real estate developer, praised the idea of removing borders and hinted at benefits of a “wonderful marriage” between the two nations. Despite the remarks, both leaders said trade talks will continue, although tensions remain high over U.S. tariffs and differing approaches to border policy.
Carney emphasized future negotiations will be on Canada’s terms and noted that Canada must rethink its economic approach in light of recent U.S. trade actions.
