Shooting at Dallas Immigration Facility
Authorities in Dallas, Texas, confirmed that three people were killed in a shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office on September 24, 2025. Two immigration detainees died, a third remains in critical condition, and the gunman took his own life.
Police say the attacker opened fire from a rooftop across the street, targeting the ICE facility and a nearby unmarked van. Despite the heavy gunfire, no ICE agents or law enforcement officers were harmed.
Evidence Suggests Anti-ICE Motivation
The FBI confirmed that unspent rounds recovered at the scene bore engravings reading “ANTI-ICE.” Director Kash Patel stated that investigators believe the shooting was ideologically motivated.
Images released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) showed bullet holes piercing office windows and even a glass-encased American flag inside the facility. Officials emphasized that ICE employees, like other law enforcement personnel, face growing risks from politically charged attacks.
Facility Details
The Dallas ICE office oversees north Texas and Oklahoma. It is not a long-term detention center but instead serves as a temporary holding site where detainees may stay for up to 12 hours before transfer to other facilities. The office also houses Enforcement and Removal Operations, which is responsible for arrests, detention, and deportations.
Last month, officers detained a man outside the same building who falsely claimed to have a bomb, underscoring ongoing security challenges for federal facilities tasked with immigration enforcement.
Reactions From Officials
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the incident an “assassination” attempt that would not slow ICE’s work in enforcing immigration law. He pledged full cooperation between state and federal authorities to uncover the shooter’s motives.
Attorney General Pam Bondi urged Americans to pray for victims and praised law enforcement’s rapid response. Republican Senators Lindsay Graham, Chuck Grassley, and Ted Cruz also issued statements condemning political violence, stressing that rhetoric fueling hostility against ICE officers is dangerous and must end.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson described the situation as “a scary time” for the country, while local police appealed to the public for calm and vigilance.
Growing Concerns Over Targeted Attacks
The incident follows a pattern of threats and violence directed at ICE and its personnel across the United States. Acting Dallas ICE Director Joshua Johnson noted this was the second time he had to address a gunman targeting one of his facilities. He warned that hostile rhetoric circulating online contributes to deadly consequences.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims or the shooter. The FBI and DHS continue to lead the investigation.
