Star, Idaho — A fast-moving brush fire near Highway 16 and Beacon Light Road scorched approximately 100 acres of land on Monday afternoon, prompting a multi-agency response as flames approached homes and businesses in the area.
Crews from the Eagle Fire Department, Star Fire Protection District, Meridian Fire, and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m., aided by water trucks from the nearby Valnova community.
Officials say the fire started on Bureau of Land Management property and, at its peak, threatened at least two structures. However, no damage to buildings was reported. Smoke was visible from nearby subdivisions and businesses, including Bud’s Marketplace.
Firefighters were able to significantly reduce smoke and slow the spread of the fire by late afternoon. As of 4:45 p.m., crews remained on scene to monitor hotspots and prevent flare-ups.
Traffic remained open on Highway 16, though Eagle Police assisted with flow control and urged the public to avoid the area during the response.
The fire was located just north of Beacon Light Road, east of Idaho 16. First responders credited coordinated efforts for keeping the blaze from escalating further.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
