March 22, 2025 — George Foreman, a two-time heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist, has died at the age of 76. His family announced his passing on social media Friday night.
Foreman first gained international attention after winning gold in boxing at the 1968 Olympics. He became heavyweight champion in 1973 after defeating Joe Frazier. In 1974, he lost the title to Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble in the Jungle,” one of boxing’s most well-known bouts.
Foreman retired in the late 1970s but made a comeback a decade later. In 1994, at age 45, he regained the heavyweight title, becoming the oldest boxer to do so.
In addition to his boxing career, Foreman was a minister and entrepreneur. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
