BOISE, Idaho — A two-day event called “Hetero Awesome Fest” is scheduled for June 20–21 in Cecil D. Andrus Park, directly across from the Idaho State Capitol. The festival, organized by Mark Fitzpatrick, owner of the Old State Saloon in Eagle, Idaho, is intended as a public celebration of what he calls “traditional family values” and will coincide with national LGBTQ Pride Month.
According to promotional material, the event will include live music, local food vendors, and speakers focused on themes of faith, family, and personal freedom. Fitzpatrick, who launched a similar initiative last year dubbed “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month,” has established a nonprofit organization—Heterosexual Awesomeness Inc.—to formally host the event and seek sponsorship.
Fitzpatrick says the purpose of the festival is not to target any group, but to promote what he sees as underrepresented cultural values.
