BOISE, Idaho — Governor Brad Little has signed House Bill 109, banning the purchase of soda and candy using SNAP (food stamp) benefits in Idaho.
The change requires a federal waiver from the USDA. Governor Little confirmed the state will pursue the waiver immediately.
The bill aligns with the national Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. Both HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins praised Idaho’s move, encouraging other states to follow.
The goal: ensure taxpayer-funded assistance supports nutritious food, not products linked to chronic disease.
