The Idaho Department of Corrections has started phase 2 of construction at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution to implement execution by firing squad. The project, expected to take 6–9 months, follows House Bill 37, which makes firing squad the state’s primary execution method starting July 1, 2026. All executions are paused during renovations. Training for execution teams will begin once construction is complete.
