Incident Overview
A Boise resident was apprehended on charges related to an attempted arson at a building housing federal offices. The incident occurred on the night of February 18, when the suspect allegedly stole an ambulance and drove it into the Portico North building, which contains offices for the Department of Homeland Security.
Details of the Alleged Crime
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Sarah Elizabeth George, is accused of taking a Canyon County Paramedics ambulance from outside St. Luke’s Meridian. The vehicle was reportedly taken while the medical crew was busy with a patient inside the facility. Surveillance footage captured a person matching George’s description approaching the hospital before the theft.
After allegedly stealing the ambulance, George is said to have parked it briefly to load gasoline cans and a plastic bag into the vehicle. She then drove to the Portico North building, where she reportedly crashed the ambulance through the entrance and poured gasoline across the lobby floor.
Investigation and Arrest
The Meridian Police Department, led by Chief Tracy Basterrechea, conducted an extensive investigation over five days. Officers canvassed local businesses for surveillance footage and tracked vehicle records to identify the suspect. George was ultimately charged with malicious destruction of government property by fire and malicious destruction of property used in or affecting interstate commerce. These charges could lead to a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.
Additional Findings
Authorities discovered a social media post allegedly made by George on the morning of the incident. The post included an AI-generated image of the White House on fire, accompanied by a caption suggesting the destruction of structures built on falsehoods. This post has been included in the affidavit as part of the evidence against her.

The Portico North building, targeted in the alleged arson attempt, is leased by the U.S. General Services Administration. It houses offices for the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The incident has raised concerns about security measures at federal facilities.
Potential Consequences
