What Happened
An Idaho-Wyoming nuclear industry partnership is set to receive a $31 million federal award. The funds will support collaborative efforts across more than 45 organizations in both states. These groups are working together to develop workforce capacity and manufacturing capabilities for the nuclear sector.
The initiative builds on the designation of the Intermountain West Energy Corridor as a nuclear energy-focused Tech Hub by the U.S. Department of Commerce last year. It remains the only such hub in the nation dedicated specifically to nuclear technology.

The Idaho Advanced Energy Consortium has coordinated these efforts for nearly three years. It does not advocate for or against specific proposals but instead convenes stakeholders across construction, manufacturing, transportation, and education.
Idaho possesses a highly skilled nuclear workforce, established infrastructure, and deep institutional knowledge. The state supports industries including small modular reactor development, hydrogen production, and next-generation grid technology. New missions at the U.S. Department of Energy’s premier nuclear laboratory have historically supported durable careers in technical fields.
