Fire Growth and Response
The Lake Creek Fire, reported Sunday afternoon in the Sawtooth National Forest about six miles north of Ketchum, expanded rapidly to 300 acres by evening, according to the South Idaho Interagency Dispatch Center.
The blaze is burning roughly half a mile southwest of the Lake Creek Lakes Picnic Area. Local, state, and federal firefighting resources have been dispatched, including air tankers, engines, and ground crews.
Evacuation Readiness
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office has asked residents on the east side of Highway 75 between Lake Creek Road and Eagle Creek Road to be in “ready” status. Officials urged households in the area to gather essential items and remain alert for evacuation orders.
Lake Creek Road has been closed to the public. All day users were evacuated from trails, picnic areas, and ponds near the fire.
Power Outage Restored
Earlier Sunday, a separate equipment issue left more than 4,000 Idaho Power customers in the Ketchum area without electricity. Service has since been restored. Officials confirmed the outage was not related to the wildfire.
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Authorities continue to investigate while focusing on containment efforts. As of Sunday evening, no structures had been reported lost and no homes had been evacuated.
