The City of Nampa is considering transferring ownership of the Ford Idaho Center to the College of Western Idaho (CWI).
At a town hall Tuesday, Mayor Debbie Kling and CWI President Gordon Jones explained the proposal, saying the city can no longer sustain the costs of maintaining the large event venue, which has $25 million in deferred maintenance and runs annual deficits.
CWI said it would keep current events, like the Snake River Stampede rodeo, and continue using the same management company. The move would not raise taxes or tuition.
A public hearing on the proposal is set for August 11 at Nampa City Hall. Residents can also email comments to clerks@cityofnampa.us.
