BOISE, Idaho — Hector Aguirre, 28, of Caldwell, has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott.
The sentencing follows an incident in June 2023, when law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop involving Aguirre. During the stop, officers discovered that Aguirre had absconded from supervision under the Idaho Department of Correction’s Probation and Parole.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded firearm and 66 fentanyl pills. Due to prior felony convictions related to controlled substances, Aguirre is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
Investigators identified Aguirre as a member of the Norteño gang.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Caldwell Police Department. It was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kane Venecia.
