Post Falls Standoff Ends Peacefully with Arrest; Traffic Temporarily Closed

POST FALLS — A 52-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening following a brief standoff with police near the 4800 block of West Riverbend Avenue, according to the Post Falls Police Department.

Detectives and the Special Response Team were preparing to serve a search warrant when the suspect drove into the area. Officers conducted a traffic stop, but the man, reportedly armed with a handgun, initially refused to exit his vehicle.

After a brief standoff, he surrendered and was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for resisting and obstructing. Authorities later searched his home in connection with a possible sex offense.

The standoff led to temporary closures of eastbound I-90 and both directions of Riverbend Avenue. The suspect’s name was not released to protect the victim’s identity.
