Veterans Gain Path to Small-Scale Farming Careers
The University of Idaho Extension has launched a new farm incubator program in Boise aimed at helping military veterans transition into small-scale agriculture careers. The initiative provides hands-on training and resources designed to lower the barriers veterans face when entering the farming industry.
The program is backed by a USDA grant awarded to the University of Idaho, which has been expanding its agricultural outreach across the state. Veterans who complete the program are expected to gain practical skills applicable to running small farms or launching agricultural businesses in the Treasure Valley and beyond.
The launch reflects a broader effort across the Mountain West to connect returning service members with sustainable career opportunities rooted in rural and agricultural communities. Idaho’s farming sector continues to offer strong prospects for new producers entering the market at a small-scale level.
