17-Year-Old Shot by Police in East Idaho

POCATELLO, Idaho — A 17-year-old autistic boy who was shot by police during a domestic disturbance call over the weekend has undergone three surgeries, including one to amputate his left leg, according to family statements shared with KIFI.

The incident took place in Pocatello, where officers responded to a report of a disturbance. A bystander video shows the teen standing behind a gate in his front yard, holding a knife, while officers issue commands. Moments later, multiple shots are fired.

Community Reacts as Investigation Begins

The shooting has led to growing public concern and local protests, with many residents questioning the level of force used. A neighbor who placed the original 911 call said they were hoping for assistance, not violence:

“We weren’t trying to bring a firing squad down to Harrison Street.”

The Pocatello Police Department has turned the case over to the East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force, which will lead an independent investigation into the incident. Officials have urged the public to withhold judgment until the facts are fully reviewed.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not yet released the names of the officers involved or additional details about the timeline of the events. The department says updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
