The Institute for American Manufacturing & Technology (IAMT), a policy and research organization, has expanded its research initiatives through three specialized divisions focused on the structural challenges facing American industry, energy systems, and technological infrastructure.
The organization, led by Executive Director Patrick J. Wolf, PhD, operates through three specialized but interconnected research divisions: the Aegis Institute for artificial intelligence and compute infrastructure, the Atlas Institute for energy and power systems, and the Forge Policy Institute for manufacturing and industrial supply chain policy. The Institute for American Manufacturing & Technology was structured around the premise that these domains are fundamentally interdependent, making it one of the first organizations to approach artificial intelligence, energy infrastructure, and manufacturing capacity as integrated components of the same national industrial system.
Since its launch, The Institute for American Manufacturing & Technology has published a growing body of research covering topics ranging from state-level artificial intelligence governance to energy demand projections tied to reshored manufacturing, defense production, and AI compute expansion.
“The challenges facing American industry are not siloed. Energy policy, AI adoption, and manufacturing competitiveness are deeply interconnected,” said Dr. Patrick J. Wolf, Executive Director of the Institute for American Manufacturing & Technology. “The divisional structure allows us to approach each domain with the depth it requires while keeping the research integrated.”
The Aegis Institute focuses on artificial intelligence policy, compute infrastructure, strategic technology governance, and the institutional frameworks needed as AI systems become increasingly embedded in both government and private sector operations. One of its recent publications examines the strategic case for state-level Chief AI Officers and machine-readable governance systems.
The Atlas Institute focuses on energy security, power generation, grid reliability, and the energy requirements associated with industrial expansion. Its recent research on oil market vulnerability and projected energy demand for data centers, manufacturing facilities, and defense production has highlighted the widening gap between current grid capacity and the infrastructure required for long term industrial growth.
The Forge Policy Institute addresses manufacturing competitiveness, industrial capacity, supply chain resilience, and the structural conditions necessary for American production strength. Its work examines the policy frameworks, workforce realities, and industrial constraints that will determine whether large-scale reshoring and domestic production goals are achievable in practice.
The Institute for American Manufacturing & Technology’s research is focused on providing applied policy analysis and long term strategic frameworks related to manufacturing, energy, artificial intelligence, and national industrial capacity.
