Israel Resumes Ground Operations in Gaza, Reclaims Key Corridor

On March 19, 2025, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, marking the first such action since the collapse of a ceasefire earlier this year.  The operation aimed to retake the Netzarim Corridor, a strategic area that divides northern and southern Gaza.

The offensive followed a series of Israeli airstrikes that resulted in over 400 Palestinian casualties, including many women and children.  The IDF’s ground operations are intended to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages and relinquishing control of Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of intensified attacks unless hostages held by Hamas are released.  The renewed conflict has sparked domestic protests within Israel, with citizens demanding the resolution of the hostage crisis.

The situation remains critical, with international bodies expressing concern over the escalating violence and its humanitarian impact on Gaza’s civilian population.
