Routine Chlorination Underway in Post Falls
The City of Post Falls has announced the start of its annual fall chlorination process to maintain the safety and quality of the municipal water supply.
The effort, led by the city’s Water Division, involves adding chlorine to the water distribution system to ensure disinfection levels remain above 0.25 parts per million (ppm) for a 30-day period. This step is considered standard procedure to safeguard public health and is conducted each fall when water usage typically decreases.
Timing Based on Seasonal Water Usage
Chlorination is expected to begin shortly after October 6. However, the exact start date depends on local water demand, which typically drops as outdoor irrigation systems are shut off for the season.
Health Guidance for Sensitive Individuals
City officials have confirmed that the chlorination process meets all state and federal regulatory standards. However, those with health concerns or sensitivities to chlorine are encouraged to consult their physician for personalized advice.
“We understand that individuals may respond differently to chemical changes in the environment. We encourage anyone with specific concerns to speak with their healthcare provider,” said a spokesperson for the Water Division.
