Three Candidates Enter Boise School Board Race as September Filing Deadline Approaches
Three candidates are preparing to run for seats on the Boise School District Board of Trustees this fall, with two current trustees seeking re-election and one former trustee looking to return to the board.
Three trustee seats are scheduled to open for the contest beginning September 1. To be eligible to vote in the race, residents must be at least 18 years old and a taxpaying resident within Boise School District boundaries.
The board currently includes seven trustees: Dave Wagers, Debbie Donovan, Dr. Paul Bennion, Nancy Gregory, Krista Hasler, Elizabeth Langley, and Dr. Alejandro Necochea.
The election comes as the district also prepares for a leadership transition. Superintendent Lisa Roberts is retiring, and Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Wendy Johnson is set to step into the superintendent role on July 1. Deputy Superintendent of Operations Nick Smith remains in his position.
School board races across Idaho have drawn increased public attention in recent years as debates over curriculum, parental rights, and district spending have pushed local education governance into the spotlight. Fundraising and candidate visibility are expected to play a larger role in local races this cycle as voter engagement continues to rise statewide.
Candidates and voters alike will be watching closely to see whether the incoming superintendent’s priorities align with board direction following the leadership change this summer.
